Muddy’s Bake Shop, Home of the Prozac Cupcake
When you think “Memphis,” you may think of music, Elvis, or barbecue…but what about cupcakes? After a visit to Muddy’s Bake Shop, you’ll definitely associate sweet treats with this Tennessee city!
Muddy’s Bake Shop is most well-known for its Prozac Cupcakes. Now, don’t expect to find any prescription drugs in your cupcake or to cure anxiety or depression with these things. It’s just a name, k? Basically, they’re saying that these cupcakes are just THAT GOOD that they’ll chill you right out. So, what is a Prozac Cupcake? Chocolate cupcakes with chocolate buttercream icing and happy sprinkles (or SPRANKLES as they are known at Muddy’s!) on top for good measure.
The Prozac Cupcake is the bakery’s best-seller, but I actually wouldn’t recommend it to everyone. Do you love chocolate? Like LOVE chocolate? Go ahead and grab yourself a Prozac. For me, it was a bit too much chocolate. Plus, Muddy’s has some INCREDIBLE other flavors, so definitely try more than just that chocolate on chocolate.
My favorite is the King Cupcake. I am totally obsessed with this cupcake, which is banana-flavored with peanut butter icing. Not sure about banana? Let me say this: Banana pudding is my favorite food ever, but it has to be done correctly. I do NOT like fake banana-flavored things. It has to be true banana, homemade deliciousness, and Muddy’s definitely delivered. Hallelujah and amen.
Why is it called the King Cupcake? After Elvis Presley, of course. You may know that his favorite snack was fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches. A fitting tribute in cupcake form!
If we lived closer to Memphis, you can bet I’d be at the bakery on a regular basis. Besides the King, I also loved Strawberry Fields (which reminded me of my great-grandmother’s strawberry cake) and Frankly Scarlett (red velvet, yes ma’am!).
Cupcake flavors are rotated out, so be sure to check the Muddy’s Bake Shop website for the day’s menu. You’ll also find tons of other treats like pies, cakes, and cookies. You and your sweet tooth can thank me later.
Muddy’s has been baking up treats since 2008, using only the best, natural ingredients. They don’t advertise, which keeps their costs down. Yall, they don’t even accept tips. Any tips go to non-profit organizations in the area each month. Now that’s a business I can stand behind.
What’s your favorite cupcake flavor? Have you visited Muddy’s before? What cupcake do you most want to try? Have you visited any phenomenal bakeries? We’d love to hear from you, so leave us a message in the comments below!
