There is a Giant Shoe Museum in Seattle’s Pike Place Market
Pike Place Market in Seattle, Washington is famous for fresh flowers, fruit, and fish, local arts and crafts, and mouth-watering goodies, but did you know that it’s also the home of the World Famous Giant Shoe Museum?
Since childhood, I’ve been fascinated with wonders, curiosities, the odd, and all things bizarre. I think it’s what helped fuel my love of travel, this need to see more, learn more about people, animals, places, and this whole crazy world we live in. Wouldn’t life be so boring if we were all exactly the same?

When we travel, I am always on the lookout for the unusual, and Seattle did not disappoint. I know my face lit up at the sight of the Giant Shoe Museum.
Taking up a small section of wall in Pike Place Market, the Giant Shoe Museum is made up of a large mural painted sideshow-circus/ boardwalk-style beckoning shoppers to stop by and pop a few quarters into the various viewfinders. It’s like a peep show!

For a grand total of one dollar, you can see all the museum has to offer. Just what will you see? A clown shoe, a shoe owned by the world’s tallest man, the “greatest shoe on earth,” and the largest collection of giant shoes. Are you curious? I am ALWAYS curious!

Honestly, I think this museum is quite clever. The collection is odd enough, special enough that it does invoke curiosity. We walked away with more than a few quarters’ worth of smiles and a story to tell. While many sideshow attractions at fairs will have you paying a few dollars to see plastic aliens and terribly crafted fake mermaids, at least these shoes are the real deal!
Are you adding the Giant Shoe Museum to your Seattle must-see list? Do you enjoy curiosities like these? What is the strangest museum or item in a museum you’ve ever seen? Let us know in the comments below!
