Find Memphis’ Best Ribs at Charles Vergo’s Rendezvous
Charles Vergo’s Rendezvous is the home to my favorite Memphis-style barbecue ribs. The pulled pork is delicious, but the Rendezvous is known worldwide for the ribs.
If you’re planning a trip, know that you won’t find the entrance on a main street. Yes, you have to walk down an alley, go down to a basement, and it’s awesome.
The servers are always super helpful, friendly, and we’ve never had bad or slow service. Ask them about anything you have questions about on the menu. They’ll surely steer you in the right direction!
Our first trip to Rendezvous was way back in 2008 for my birthday. Pretty great birthday meal, huh? This was my first taste of the wonderful ribs. Just how good are they? Let me tell you this…. I don’t generally like ribs. I LOVE their ribs! Most places sell ribs that are dry, hard to chew, and with no flavor except smoke. Rendezvous has consistently served us juicy, super-tasty ribs on each visit.
I also highly, highly recommend their pulled pork and their barbecue sauces.
The red beans and rice at the Rendezvous is super sweet, with a little tartness, and very yummy! SOMETIMES, they give this little dish out at lunch for FREE, but it’s not every day and it’s only while it lasts.
I’ve found that they sometimes post about it on their Facebook Page. Think of it as an appetizer.
I either get the famous ribs OR the pulled pork barbecue nachos. On this particular trip, I got the nachos and Mark got a pulled pork sandwich that came with baked beans and slaw.

The pork is always so melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the seasoning and sauces are always delicious! Once all my goodies are gone from my plate of nachos, and all I’m left with is chips, I pour on more of that barbecue sauce!
Make sure you have time to wander around the restaurant while you’re there. Photos and antique “stuff” is plentiful and actually pretty interesting to look at. I always like to know which celebrities have visited and enjoyed some of my favorite restaurants!
Craving these ribs and sauces, but not coming to Memphis soon? You can order from the Rendezvous online shop!
